Mandatory Water Use Restriction

Mandatory Water Use Restriction

HANSON WATER DEPARTMENT
Mandatory Water Use Restriction

On July 3, 2014 streamflow, as measured at the Taunton River in Bridgewater, MA dropped below 130.5 cubic feet per second (cfs) for three (3) consecutive days.  Effective immediately and in accordance with Hanson's Water Management Act Permit, we are required to implement the following mandatory outside water use restrictions in order to protect streamflow for aquatic life and to ensure a sustainable drinking water supply:

No nonessential outdoor water use allowed, except by means of a hand-held hose, between the hours of  7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. and between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.  Examples of nonessential outdoor water use include washing of vehicles other than by means of a commercial car wash except as necessary for operator safety; and the washing of exterior building surfaces, parking lots, driveways or sidewalks except as necessary to apply paint, preservatives, stucco, pavement or cement.

Sprinklers may be used for lawn watering outside the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. one (1) day per week.

The Hanson Water Department is required (per our Water Management Act Permit) to enforce these restrictions until the Taunton River streamflow exceeds 130.5 cfs for seven (7) consecutive days, at which time you will be notified of the elimination of restrictions.  Thank you for your support in protecting this valuable resource.

If you have any questions, please contact the Water Department at 781-447-1200.
