Hanson Public Library Hosts Author~Thomas~Mickey~on~Saturday, April 11thWith better weather ahead, many of us will return to our gardens.~Are you looking for some inspirational ideas to enhance your garden? If so, the Hanson Public Library is hosting~Thomas~Mickey, author of~America's Romance with the English Garden~for an author talk on~Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 12:30 p.m.This 'romance' between the English garden and America's growing middle class began near the turn of the 20th~century, thanks to advances in paper production, full-colored printing and rural mail delivery, which triggered a growth in mass-produced catalogs. The most prominent of these mailings included seed and nursery catalogs beautifully illustrated with homes surrounded by romantic English-styled gardens.America's Romance with the English Garden~was nominated by the Council on Botanical and Horticultural Libraries for its annual Literature Award, and the UK magazine~Spectator~recently named the book "best garden book of the year".After the~author~talk, there will be time for questions and book signings.~Books are available through the SAILS Library Network or for purchase at the library. This free event is sponsored by The Hanson Public Library Foundation, Inc. but requires registration. Please call~781-293-2151~or emailinfo@hansonlibrary.org. We look forward to seeing you there!
