The Hanson Emergency Management Teams advises the following:
~
The weather forecast models from the national weather service are still predicting a major snowstorm with high winds for our area.
~
We strongly recommend that everyone take the necessary precautions and prepare their homes and family for a significant snowstorm.
~
Items to remember are charged flashlights, charged cell phones, canned goods and water.
Residents should plan for the possibility of power loss.
National Grid is planning for a level 2 event which puts power restoration time from 36-72 hours. Please treat all downed power lines as if they were live.
We recommend that everyone shelter in place and stay off the roads for the duration of this weather event. Governor Baker has imposed a statewide travel ban beginning at midnight Monday, January 26, 2015.
At this time plans are in place to open the Whitman-Hanson Regional High School on Wednesday morning at 9:00 a.m. as a warming center if needed.
Be advised that there will be a town wide parking ban in effect and the fire department is asking residents to dig out any nearby hydrants that are covered by snow when safe to do so. In case of a fire emergency, having the hydrants easily visible and clear allows your firefighters to begin their work more quickly.
Hanson officials will continue monitoring the storm over the next 24 to 48 hours and provide further updates if necessary.

Thank you and stay safe
