Transportation Information 2014-2015

Good Morning,

We are writing you today to inform you that student transportation information is now posted to our Infinite Campus Parent Portal site under the "Transportation" tab on the left side of the portal screen.  We ask parents and guardians to closely review this information as routes may have been adjusted from past years. The parent portal may be accessed by clicking the Infinite Campus Portal Login on the main page of the District Web Site at www.whrsd.org

Student safety remains our primary concern. Parents are reminded, by District policy, stops must be safe for parents to walk to and wait with students, it is not a requirement for parents to be able to see students waiting for the bus from their house. In many cases, students are assigned to "group stops" which limit the number of times the bus fleet needs to start and stop. The District provides transportation to over 3,500 students daily, and a review of each route is done prior to release with District staff, public safety officials, and representatives from our contractor.

Bus times are approximate, and we ask that you please have your children at the bus stop at least 10 minutes prior to the posted time.  The same is true for drop-off times in the afternoons.  As a reminder, there must be a parent, or pre-approved guardian/adult at the stop to release any Kindergarten student.  In order to maintain bus schedules and student safety, if a parent or guardian is not at the bus stop, the student may be taken back to the school or to the next scheduled school for pickup.

A "Bus Stop Change Request" form is available on-line, stop change requests will be reviewed and you will be notified as to the resolution.  All change requests must be received by August 20th to allow our safety review team to consolidate and review all requests in an efficient manner and to ensure processing for opening day.  All requests received after August 20th will be reviewed after the start of the school year.

If you will be transporting your child to or from school daily, this allows us to release a seat on a bus, and saves the District, and taxpayers' money by allowing our team to better balance routes, and have accurate counts of the number of bus riders.  Please use the change request form to also inform us of these instances.  Students should only ride on buses that they have been assigned.  Emergency one time exceptions may be requested by contacting the main office of your child's school.

If you do not have access to our parent portal system, your child's school staff will be available to review the bus information prior to opening beginning on August 25th. Please contact the transportation department via our parent information center at 781-618-8100 with any questions or concerns. We encourage you to also review District "Transportation Guidelines" posted to our website at www.whrsd.org/transportation.

On behalf of the Whitman-Hanson Regional School District staff we wish you a very safe and relaxing end to summer 2014 and look forward to welcoming you back to the 2014-2015 school year.

Sincerely,

Craig W. Finley

Assistant Superintendent of District Operation
