School Opening Delayed until

Tuesday, September 6th

The first day of school, for all students in grades PK through 12 will be on Tuesday, September 6, 2011. We have been in close communication with officials from both Whitman and Hanson as we make decisions regarding student safety and the restoration of power to our communities.  Public safety officials have asked us to remind all community members to avoid touching any wires which may be down on streets and yards.

As of noon on Aug 30, 2011, the high school building still does not have power.  Power has been restored to our other facilities.

Many of our back to school programs have been moved to Tuesday, September 6, 2011. The following events will be held:

> Open House for all Conley School, Duval School, Indian Head School and Maquan School will be from 4:30 to 6:00pm.

> Kindergarten orientation from 4:30 to 6:00pm. 

            There will be two sessions, one at 4:30pm and one at 5:30pm. 

            All students scheduled for the AM kindergarten session should plan to attend the 4:30pm orientation.

         

            All students scheduled for the PM kindergarten session should plan to attend the 5:30pm session.

 Duval Elementary School's   "Back to School" barbeque will be from 4pm  to 6:30pm.

The Hanson Middle School, Grade 6 Open House program will be at 6:30pm.

This evening a call for teachers and staff will be made updating the status of the teacher workdays, prior to the opening of school. Central Office and Administrative department staff shall plan to report as scheduled once power has been restored to the high school. Technology Services, Facilities, SmartCentre, and SJ Services Staff will have regular workdays for the remainder of the week.
