The Hanson Memorial Day and Patriotic Observance Committee submitted two articles for inclusion on the warrant for the May 201O special town meeting. The first Article is to see if the town will consent to honor the life of PFC Belmiro Tavares Jr. who was killed in action in Vietnam by dedicating the island at Maquan St and School street in his honor. The second article was to see if the townspeople would appropriate $1500.00 to defray the expense to do so. The inclusion of both articles was closely watched and it was monitored to assure that both articles made it on the warrant. However when the warrant was published---the appropriation article was exluded----no doubt by design from someone in the selectmen's office. Fortunately a private citizen in town---a veteran---has offered to pay out of his own pocket to honor PFC Tavares---to the everlasting shame of the board of selectmen.
Unbeknownst to most taxpayers---the board of health ---yes folks---the board of health is going to raise the taxes. Onew member of the board of health is in opposition: Mr. Edgehill. However Mr McSweeney and Mr. Pelligra have decided amongst the two of them---yes---two men---have decided that the townspeople don't pay enogh taxes to satisfy them.
The young people of Hanson had better wake up and get involved---before they are no longer able to pay the taxes unjustly levied upon them!
