We are pleased to announce that the rehabilitation to the water tank has been completed and the procedures to fill the tank have begun. Today a temporary six inch above ground main is being installed from a hydrant in the distribution system to the hydrant attached to the water tank. This main will provide back flow protection whichs prevent the water going into the tank from coming out until the tank is full and the water is tested. It was determined that this was necessary due to the water usage demand on the system right now despite the water ban. Otherwise, we could not isolate the water in the tank – or ensure its safety in case of another main break, fire or high usage. The temporary water main will be chlorinated and tested before it is utilized. We should be able start filling the tank early next week but it is expected to take several days so as to put as little stress as possible on our already strained system. Once the tank is filled it too will be tested. Our current estimation is now July 6. We understand that the water ban is inconvenient but we urge consumers to observe it while we are completing this process. Once we have returned our system to normal operation the ban will be reevaluated. In the meantime your cooperation is of the utmost importance to ensure water can fill the tank without causing more dirty water incidents or other disturbances. Bottled water will continue to be available at the Water Department Monday through Friday 9am-1pm. Please contact us if you need to make other arrangements.
