Posting of Job; Full-Time & Part-Time DispatchersDate November 8, 2013The Emergency Communications Center is currently accepting applications for a full-time dispatcher and part-time dispatchers. All applicants will be required to have the ability to work nights, weekend and Holidays. The starting pay is $15.91/Hr. Upon successful completion of training, starting pay is $19.89/Hr. The dispatcher is primarily responsible for communications with the general public and the following town department; Police Fire/EMS, Highway, Water, Animal Control and authorized tow services. Additionally, the dispatcher is responsible for incoming/outgoing communications from other agencies utilizing various department radio frequencies, electronic equipment, as well as communications received from the public by telephone or in person.The dispatcher is expected to coordinate the distribution of all incoming calls for Police, Fire/EMS to appropriate personnel in an expeditious manner; making all known facts available to those responding. The dispatcher must possess an aptitude to work well under stress and multi-task during eventful periods. It is also imperative that the dispatcher possess a high degree of character, stability and personal integrity in handling confidential, privileged and/or classified material/information. Unauthorized dissemination of any such material or information to unauthorized individual relating to investigations, criminal matters, personnel matters, medical information, officer deployment or safety and security data is expressly prohibited.Minimum qualifications include but are not limited to the following;
- Possess a high school diploma; associate Degree and/ or certification in business concentration preferred.
- Possess current working knowledge of office practices and procedures including the use of type-writer/keyboard, network computers, inter – office and external email, and electronic facsimiles.
- Possess familiarity with and demonstrate the ability to perform data entry on a computer based dispatch system. Knowledge with and ability to utilize Microsoft Office products is desired.
- Possess the ability to perform a variety of clerical and record keeping duties that vary in type and difficulty in accordance with the prescribed procedures of the Emergency Communication center.
- Possess E-911 certification and EMD certification or have the ability to attend the required certification and training classes. Previous training and experience in emergency communications dispatching is preferred.
