All Whitman-Hanson schools will be OPEN and operating on a normal schedule for Wednesday October 31, 2012.

Power has been restored to all school buildings, and all safety systems have been confirmed operational. Local officials have no concerns regarding buses traveling on roads, or at school bus stops.

Some of our community residents and District staff members may still be without power, and may not receive this telephone call unless they have registered cell phones on file. If you know of someone who may not have power, please pass this notice on to them.

We look forward to welcoming all students and staff members back to school tomorrow.

W/H Schools Cancelled for Oct 30, 2012

Due to the impact of Hurricane Sandy on our communities all Whitman-Hanson Schools, grades PK-12 are cancelled for tomorrow, Tuesday October 30, 2012. This includes all day and evening classes and after school programs.

Local officials would like to remind the community to please treat all downed power lines as live. Local utility companies are estimating power to be restored between 72hours and 5 days. The High School, Whitman Middle, Indian Head and Maquan School currently do not have power.


Additional information will be posted on our web site (www.whrsd.org), and recorded on our storm line at 781-618-7495 as needed.

The Hanson Food Pantry will be closed on Tuesday, October 30th.  It will reopen on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.   The Food Pantry is located at the Hanson American Legion on Robinson Street.

The Hanson Fire Department will be running a CPR / AED class for residents, free of charge at Fire Department Headquarters 505 Liberty St. on Thursday,
November 8th from 7-9 PM.~ All attendees will receive a course completion card. This class is on a first come first served basis. Class size is limited, please call Fire Headquarters at 781-293-9571 to register.

The Hanson Public Library Foundation invites you to enjoy an evening with Kate Whouley, author of Remembering the Music, Forgetting the Words: Travels with Mom in the Land of Dementia and Cottage for Sale, Must Be Moved, at the Hanson Public Library on Thursday, October 25th at 6:30 p.m. Ms. Whouley is a writer, an independent book industry consultant and a facilitator for the Cape and Islands Arts & Alzheimer's Initiative. Remembering the Music, Forgetting the Words is a chronicle of the profound, life-changing, and laugh-out-loud experiences Whouley encountered while being her mother's Alzheimer's caregiver. Remembering the Music won the New England Book Award in nonfiction and an American Library Association 2012 Best of the Best citation. Cottage for Sale, Must Be Moved is a captivating, quirky memoir of the eccentric characters and misadventures encountered when Whouley moved a vacation cottage across Cape Cod to create a home.

October 25th at 6 PM, the Hanson Children's Museum and the Whitman-Hanson Education Foundation will be teaming up for a Ladies Night Out fundraiser to be held at the Venus II in Hanson. With your purchase of each $10 ticket, you will be entered into a raffle to win our door prize. This will be a night filled with line-dancing, chair massages, shopping, appetizers and lots of fun!!! Proceeds will go towards bringing the Hanson Children's Museum's Wild West exhibit to the Conley school and the first high school student delegation trip to China.

   On Saturday October 20th, 2012 at the Kingston Commuter Rail parking lot on Marion Drive the MBTA will be holding a Community Recycling Event from 10:00 AM to 2:00PM.  The event is open to the residents of Kingston and the surrounding communities such as Bridgewater, Duxbury, Middleboro, Pembroke, Plymouth or any other community. If you live anywhere close to the station it is a perfect time to get rid of that "stuff "in your garage or basement!
The MBTA encourages people to dispose of everything from refrigerators to lawnmowers in a responsible way, therefore, every item will eventually be dismantled and have zero landfill impact.  The following list is what will be accepted:

TV's at a cost of 35 cents a pound – Everything else is FREE!

Electronics: computers, monitors, VCRs, cell phones, keyboards, printers, copiers, faxes, modems, cabling, wire, cords, cameras, videos, scanners, walkmans, iPods, hard drives, stereos, speakers, etc.
Metal: all types, all kinds, swing sets, fencing, rebar, pots, pans, file cabinets, etc.
Electrical: wires, cables, motors, batteries, power tools, enclosures, panels, light fixtures,
Toys: plastic, metal, electronic
Textiles:  clothing, household linens, shoes, belts, stuffed animals, in any condition (must be dry)
Appliances: washers, dryers, AC units, stoves, refrigerators, microwaves, trash compactors, etc.
Small Appliances: vacuums, irons, blenders, toaster, food processors, lamps, humidifiers,
Yard & Power Equipment: mowers, weed whackers, tillers, chainsaws, etc

(please empty fuel & oil)

 In addition we will be accepting clothing, household linen and shoes!

 

Will not accept: wood, glass, hazardous materials, liquids, tires, mattresses, carpets,upholstered furniture, Styrofoam, fluorescent bulbs, toilets, no household trash

Hanson Fire Department Open House

Hanson Fire Department Open House
Good Evening,

The Hanson Fire Department, located at 505 Liberty Street, will be holding it's annual open house for fire prevention week this Saturday, October 6th from 12PM-4PM.

There will be games with prizes, tower truck rides, hose targets for kids to knock down, firefighting gear for kids to try on, fire apparatus on display and demonstrations of the equipment used by your firefighters.

There will be food available for purchase including hot dogs and hamburgers with proceeds benefiting the Hanson Food Pantry.  The Hanson Food Pantry will be on site to accept non-perishable food donations.
